Patti Menick graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a sculpture focus.
Her work tackles cultural topics such as pornography, nationalism, America’s love affair with consumerism, suburbia, and youth, as well as the more personal; loss, addiction, and regret. She will embrace any kind of material and/or process to complete each work.
Found materials, samples of anything and everything, can be seen on her studio shelves. Working with this array of materials lends itself to a variety of studio equipment ranging from table saws to torches to a sewing machine.
Furthering this approach, she stretches limits and boundaries by combining seemly incompatible materials into one cohesive creation. Experimentation comes into play and the studio idiom is “there are no failures”.
It all lends itself to a continuously transformative environment where multiple works are being created at the same time. Organized chaos to some, but for her “laying different levels of consciousness out like a pattern” promotes the fine-tuning of ideas that lead to successful completion.
